Annual Student Paper Contest, July 2008 Meeting in Historic Charleston, South Carolina

This year, 17 students participated in the annual meeting representing six Universities (Clemson, Colorado State, Kent State, Mississippi State, North Carolina State, and University of Florida). There were 9 student papers and 9 student posters.

The winners of the Student Poster Contest were:
1st (tie): Justin Reeves, Kent State University
1st (tie): Rory Roten, North Carolina State University
2nd: Jenny Johnson, North Carolina State University

The winners of the Student Paper Contest:
1st (tie): Bridget Lassiter, North Carolina State University
1st (tie): Joseph Vassios, Colorado State University
2nd: Ryan Wersal, Mississippi State University

Immediately following the annual meeting, students participated in a tour of regional weed management projects that was co-sponsored by AERF, SC APMS, Santee Cooper, Duke Energy, Clemson University, and University of Georgia (photos below). The tour made stops at: Clemson/South Carolina Universities’ Baruch Institute Laboratories; Arundo, Chinese Tallow, and phragmites control demonstration sites (including Mansfield Plantation); and an airboat tour of Lake Moultrie. Special thanks to Tommy Bowen, Ken Manuel, Jack Whetstone, Larry McCord, and Chip Davis for their assistance with the tour.
